Bad HSG80?
(1) Compaq SAN Switch 16
(2) Compaq HSG80 configured in dual-redundant configuration (v86F-13)
Been getting the following error in the system event log on all servers attached to the SAN:
Source: Disk
Event ID: 7, 11, 33, 51
SAN Switch and HSG80 firmware was recently upgraded, but that didn't resolve the errors.
As a test, we were going to run on one HSG80 for a while. We shut down one and all Windows 2000 servers lost their SAN drives. Obviously, this is not what we expected since they are dual-redundant. We brought the HSG80 back up and reconnected all Windows drives. Then we shut down the other HSG80 and it shut down clean. Windows servers still had SAN drives attached.
Does this indicate that the first HSG80 is failing? Any ideas?

Re: Bad HSG80?
Hi there,
If the drives were all lost when one controller was shutdown that may indicate a problem with the other controller, but it may also depend on the configuration.
If you haven't got one already, put a serial connection on the suspect controller and use Hyperterminal on a laptop or one of the servers close by. HSG80 errors will report to this terminal session.
Also do a "show this" and "show other" command and compare the output.
Cheers

Re: Bad HSG80?
Thanks for the reply. We have been running with only the one HSG80 this week and have not had any of the errors or other disk problems. It looks to us like the other HSG80 is bad.
