Cannot add P2000 as storage device to virtual Machine Manager 2012

Hi,

I am trying to connect my P2000 to Virtual Machine Manager 2012 SP1.

I have two P2000 devices. One is ISCSI the other is FC.

The ISCSI firmware is T240P01-01. When I tried connecting this I was getting error

Registration of storage provider http://10.156.0.4:5988 for user smiuser failed from Virtualmm.ldn.local with error code HostAgentFail.

Specify valid provider, port and user credentials for storage discovery.

On reading I saw that you can go to Configuration/services/management and set

Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) to unencrypted. I did this and the ISCSI P2000 is now talking to Virtual machine manager.

The FC P2000 was a device bought last year and was on an older firmware, T230P03. It didn't have the same SMI-S support as the other one.

When I tried to connect this to Virtual Machine Manager I was getting the same error as above (error code HostAgentFail.

Specify valid provider, port and user credentials for storage discovery).

I then upgraded this P2000 to the latest fimrware - T250P01-01.

I have the exact same settings for this P2000 as with the other P2000 but I am still getting the above error when trying to get Virtual MM to talk to it.
I have tried creating new users on both VMM and the P2000 but nothing works, just get the same error.

I have logged in with the CLI to check the settings and the user is setup with manage and has SMI-S enabled, Unsecure Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S 5988): Enabled

I have restarted both management controllers.

I don't know what to do now. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Cannot add P2000 as storage device to virtual Machine Manager 2012

Does anyone have any idea's?

I need to get this working but I am now completly out of things to try.

I have restarted the management and storage controllers, even powered the SAN off and rebooted, Also rebooted VMM but still error persists:

On the VMM server I get these errors in the storage management service event log:

Alert indication subscription failed on host http://10.152.0.223:5988 with error failed to create subscription: 7: No supported indication classes in filter query or no provider found: CIM_IndicationFilter.Name="54479A7D15EC4D4F923090046D0D9E91:CIM_AlertIndication:DRM28",CreationClassName="CIM_IndicationFilter",SystemCreationClassName="CIM_ComputerSystem",SystemName="10.152.0.223": CIM_ListenerDestinationCIMXML.Name="54479A7D15EC4D4F923090046D0D9E91:https://10.152.0.7:5990/h10.152.0.223/5988/CIM_AlertIndication",CreationClassName="CIM_ListenerDestinationCIMXML",SystemCreationClassName="CIM_ComputerSystem",SystemName="10.152.0.223"

It is saying no storage prividor found.

Could this just be a storage controller problem with the firmware upgrade I did? I have tried getting VMM to connect to both Storage controllers but both end up with the same error.

I could try putting this SAN on T240P01-01 like the ISCSI P2000 I have. This is working.

Are you able to downgrade the firware on a P2000? I don't want to play around with it too much in case I end up bricking it.

Re: Cannot add P2000 as storage device to virtual Machine Manager 2012

Just to close this I have finally got this working with the help of HP support.

I needed to reset the SMI-S protocol on the P2000 by using the reset smis-configuration command within telnet.

Once I ran this it worked fine.

Re: Cannot add P2000 as storage device to virtual Machine Manager 2012

I am stuck  in this same situation.

P2000 G3 iSCSI, trying to get the storage managed in VMM 2012. Won't access it with exactly the same error as HostAgentFail.

Even swapping to Encrypted fails. Even trying to connect via the other controller fails.

I've also reset the SMI configuration to no effect.

Storage Controllers are running T251P06-001
