Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

I would throw out the domain, port members from the zone and use exclusively WWNs (or do it completely the other way round).

> Sorry for bugging you :-(

That's OK - it's a nice way to brush up my debugging skills and learn new things. Thank you for letting me trying out new things ;-)

Use the following command to change a switch's name:
> switchName "newname"

However, I see that your first switch is named "-switch1". I have seen a similar configuration and we could not change the name that way. It wasn't our system, I only could give it a short look and then the system was taken away. You could try and change the name through the web interface if the CLI way does not work.

--
No, you don't need to put the E-Ports in the zones. I just wanted to verify that the switches work together - it is hard to see when the system isn't round next door.

Yes, "1,1;1,2;2,1;2,2" addresses ports 1+2 of switches with domain-IDs 1+2.

Yes, I could not change the name -switch1 :-( .. Instead I changed the switch 2's name from "switch" to "-switch2" ;-)

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

I used WWNs exclusively, still no luck,

-switch1:admin> cfgshow
Defined configuration:
cfg: bootcfg bootzone
zone: bootzone
bootalias
alias: bootalias
10:00:00:00:c9:39:7b:8a; 10:00:00:00:c9:39:81:22;
50:08:05:f3:00:0b:95:11; 10:00:00:00:c9:39:d9:6b;
10:00:00:00:c9:39:d9:83

Effective configuration:
cfg: bootcfg
zone: bootzone
10:00:00:00:c9:39:7b:8a
10:00:00:00:c9:39:81:22
50:08:05:f3:00:0b:95:11
10:00:00:00:c9:39:d9:6b
10:00:00:00:c9:39:d9:83

-switch1:admin>

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

Karthik,
I don't see anything wrong with the zoning, but I may be blind. Have you tried to access the MSA1000 with ACU after the change?

The drivers (I assume you already have installed Windows?) should have picked up the zoning change, but you might want to try a reboot of the servers or toggle a port with "portDisable 1" and "portEnable 1" and see if this works.

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

portenable/disable didn't help but reboot did the trick. But this is not the behaviour I expect :-( .. Is it a must to reboot the servers??

Also spmgr display in windows is not similar to the output of unix spmgr. It does not show me the alternate paths. Pl. help.

Thanks,
Karthik S S

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

The idea was to make the LUNs visible through only 2 FC cards from each dl580s with out remvoing the FC cables (they have 4 FC cards each). Now how do I actually make sure that the LUNs are seen through only 2 links?

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

It looks like the securepath driver sees the LUN through only one path i.e through the first FC HBA on the machine. (even when zoning is disabled). But before installing securepath I could see the 4 links to the same LUN from diskmanager.

Do I have to manually configure the alternate paths?

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

Karthik,
I guess you are using Secure Path, Workgroup Edition. I have never used it with multiple fibre channel adapters to the same controller (port), but it looks like you can not accomplish what you want to do with the Workgroup Edition. I have never seen that one can configure alternate paths - it looks like you need the 'full' Secure Path product.

Uwe,

Infact I have installed full version only and not WG edition.

Re: Devices are not seen after zoning (MSA1000-DL580-SAN2/8)

Oh, I see.
I have never seen one directing multiple adapters to the same controller port, so I don't have any experience with it.

What adapters have you put into your servers? Can you execute the 'nsShow' command on one of the switches and post it as an attachment? (.TXT only, no .DOC, please)
