EVA 4000 DISK GROUP

Hi, I have a disk group of 500 GB FATA hard drives one of the drives failed and I only have a 600GB 10k hard drive. Can I replace it with the 500 GB FATA hard drive and add it to the same group?

Re: EVA 4000 DISK GROUP

hi

no you can not mix near line drives and regular drives

on the same disk group

command view will not allow you to add it's not a problem

of drive size you can mix drives from different sizes and speed

but not from different types.

the only problem with mixing drives is the protection level for

single protection the EVA take two drives of the largest size

and puts this capacity aside.

Re: EVA 4000 DISK GROUP

If you're lack of spare parts and warranty, you could decide to just not replace the failed drive. Just remove it and install a blank. The EVA will just continue to work with reduced capacity because of the missing disk. The redundancy should be not an issue since the RSS are re-balanced on the remaining disks. You need to replace the drive only if your disk group had exactly 8 disks before failure or you drop below minimum supported disk count per enclosure without the disk. (4)
