EVA4400 SAN - GOOD decommissioned DISK as replacement spare?
Is it possible to install a DISK from a decommissioned/ offline drive enclosure which had an initialized system and disk array, into an online disk array which has a failed disk?
Question/ reiteration/ considerations/ points:
-the disk was in a production disk enclosure but has been made redundant... we're now considering the disk; and the other 11, for spares to be installed into an online array.
-the disk has data on it and may have RAID volume META data as content.
Thought experiment:
-a disk has failed in an online array and automatically been ungrouped then removed, physically.
-disk array has migrated data and is ready for a replacement.
-if one of the decommissioned disks are installed, will it show as an ungrouped disked which can then be grouped with the disk array;
or;
-will the SAN controller read the data from the disk, read that it already is part of a disk group, then break the array?

It will show as ungrouped if hot plugged, if you install it while the system is down then the metadata will be read on boot and create errors.
