HP 5000 NSR 1200

Hallo,

we have 2 tabelibrarys in the SAN.
The first is a compaq msl5026l with a DMA(Data Modula Router) and lift.
This library works fine with all of our HBAs (
8 * old: CPQ Adapter StorageWorks FC Host64-Bit NR: 120186-B21
and
5 * the new CPQ Adapter MSA 1000 FC 64-Bit 66MHZ Nr: 245299-b21).

the new library is a hp 5000 (sn: compaq_msl5026_xyzxyzxyz) with a NSR 1200. This Library works with the old hbas fine. But with the new msa 1000 HBAS it does not work fine, the dataperformance (Datendurchsatz) is only about 2 MB.

Also we have a copaq switch. every server has his own zone to his library.

I saw in the nametable of the library some differences:

The new hbas have in the cullom "COS" "2,3" as value. The old hbas have only the value "3".
The port wwn (starts with 20000) and note wwn (starts with 10000) are different at the new hbas.

We have an open call since half a year at our supplier.

We need help.

looking forward with best regards, jochen kunkel

Re: HP 5000 NSR 1200

Your english is good enough.

Here is the compatability matrix:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/ebs/EBSMatrix-0104.pdf

The 245299-B21 is an FCA-2101 HBA. That is a supported component in the EBS matrix.

You should check your other components (such as switches, application version, etc) and make sure they are also supported.

Which drive type do you have? DLT or SDLT?

You may also want to look at the documents on EBS SAN implementation here:

Re: HP 5000 NSR 1200

Kunkel,

My apologies for not replying sooner. I forgot to set email notification.

The NSR event log has many "assertions". These are conditions that cause the router to reboot (which will abort a backup). Many of the causes of assertions get fixed in firmware.

I would suggest that you update firmware to 5.3.0b (4.03.16 is quite old).

Also, your MSL library is on 4.08. I would recommend updating to 4.23.

To update the NSR firmware, you can use the telnet/ftp method. The firmware file is here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL3566/co-12621-3/5.3.0b_fw_winston_x.dlx

To update the MSL firmware, I would suggest using HP L&TT (www.hp.com/support/tapetools). Once you have that installed, use "file -> get files from web") to get the firmware image.

With L&TT installed, you can run performance tests on the drive (dev perf) and the system (sys perf) to see where the bottleneck or slowdown is.

If you would also collect a support ticket for the library with L&TT, and email it to ltt_team@hp.com, I can review the device logs.
The journey IS the reward.

Re: HP 5000 NSR 1200

Kunkel,

Earlier you said:
> The first is a compaq msl5026l with a DMA(Data Modula Router) and lift.

I think you mean an MDR.

The "lift" you mention I assume is a Pass-thru mechanism, to connect two libraries.

If you want to update firmware from 4.08 to a newer revision, you will need to temporarily disconnect the master/slave. Let me know if you have that setup, and I will provide you with instructions.
The journey IS the reward.
