HP MSA SAS disk dead / compatibility question

Hello,

I have a MSA P2000 G3 SAS, a disk dead today.

The disk is a SAS 600gb 6G dual port 15k rpm (spare code 601777-001 ) , unfortunately the warranty expired 10 days ago, so I canno call HPE.

I have a spare disk, a SAS 600gb 12G dual port 15k rpm (spare code 787656-001), according to you this disk can fit on the MSA ?

Regards.

Re: HP MSA SAS disk dead / compatibility question

Yes, u can use it in the P2000 G3.

This is sholud be this Drive:

J9V70A HP MSA 600GB 12G SAS 15K LFF (3.5in) Converter Enterprise 3yr Warranty Hard Drive

And it is listet in the P2000 G3 Quick Specs.

ACP IT Solutions AGI'm not an HPE employee, so I can be wrong.

Re: HP MSA SAS disk dead / compatibility question

Hey, I just had the same dilemma. I have a faoled 600GB drive 601777-001

and my supplier sent me a replacement drive 787656-001. What threw me was 6gb

vs 12gb. Did you have any issues using the 12gb as replacement?

Re: HP MSA SAS disk dead / compatibility question

For me no issues after replacing.

Re: HP MSA SAS disk dead / compatibility question

I would suggest always check MSA drive matrix for support perspective before using any drive in MSA box,

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04315770

As per above I see

for spare part 601777-001 -> product ID: AP860A and this is 600GB 15K 6 Gb/s SAS LFF Hot-Plug

for spare part 787656-001 -> product ID: J9V70A and this is 600GB 12G SAS 15K 3.5 in LFF ENT HDD

Only difference is backend speed. This only matters depends upon what backend speed Chassis you are using the drive. So in this case you shouldn't have any issue.
