Hi Folks,
I have a new project with a SAN, and I'm not a specialist with this. We will have 2 ESXi on HP DL360 Gen9, connected to a HPE MSA 2042 SAN.
The SAN will have 22 Hard Drive, and each of them will have 600GB.
What kind of setup you will do with this? RAID Level?
Our environnment will have 25 VM, that can be characterized in 3 categorie (PROD, INT PROD, and DEV).
Number of LUN ?
Thanks all in advance for your answer!

Re: HPE MSA 2042 SAN with VmWare
I prefer:
Pool A (Performance Pool with Tiering)
2x SSD Raid 1 (included in 2042)
11x SAS Raid 6
Pool B (Std. Pool)
11x SAS Raid 6
Multiple LUN with 2-3TB Size
Consider to buy additional 2x SSD for the second Pool

Re: HPE MSA 2042 SAN with VmWare
Hi Cali,
Thanks for your reply. I didn't aware for 2 SSD drive. Thanks.
The compagny who work whit us, share this setup for US, what do you think?
2 RAID with 2 LUN
2 Hot Spare in Global option
Database RAID 10:
3TO Actually need for VM (Apps, DTB, BI)
12 HD (600 gig each) in R10 = 3600 GB Usable storage with 1 LUN
Other VM (Server standard, VCenter) RAID 5:
1,5 TO IServer standard and VCenter
8 HD (600 gig each) in R5 (1 parity) = 4,2 TO Usable storage with 1 LUN
I can 2 SSD drive into RAID 10 for more space. We need performance for RAID Database, what do you think raid 6 with 2 ssd, vs raid 10 with 2 ssd?
Regards,

SolutionIn the QuickSpeck you can verfiy the Performance of R1 vs. R6.

4TB Datastore?
Think about Datastore corruption and restore times.
