Instructions on using MSA 2060 for backup respository

We are using Veeam as our backup software and we recently purchased two new MSA 2060 and loaded them with drives etc etc...  I have created Raid 5 volumes with Hosts with Initiators but Veeam needs a SMB folder to store backups.  Both MSA seem ready to go, healthy etc, but this is the first time we have added an MSA to production and I cannot see where to add an SMB share.  Both controllers have two fibre channels and a Cat 6 network connection but I am only using one initiator for each.

Any help would be appreciated!

The MSA devices present BLOCK storage only. A file server will need to be attached to create an SMB share or a LUN can be presented to hosts connected via FC in your case.  Other MSAs allow iSCSI or SAS shared block devices.
There is no 'File Persona' available directly from the MSA family.

Hi

I guess your Veeam server is a physical server. I don't know why you say Veeam 

needs an SMB folder it uses a physical drive as a backup repository.

as mentioned before MSA is a block storage only.

what you need to do is create largest possible disks on your MSA preferably raid 6 if 

you are using large disks.

and presenting them directly to your Veeam server.

Hi,

Please note that this suggestion is purely from MSA storage perspective.

MSA does not support creating SMB share folders with in SMU unlike certain near line storeonce D2D devices. 

If SMB folder is a requirement for Veeam, you could present the MSA volume to a windows server and create SMB shares with in windows OS.

No Problem at all.

Connect the MSA with Fibre Channel to the Backup Server.

Mount (Map) the MSA Volume on the Backup Server like a local Volume.

It is also faster than using the SMB protocol for access.

You can not use Fibre Channel for SMB, even not with a different Storage.
