Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

Hi all:

I have the following issue:

I was a MSA1000 connected to a Proliant DL580 G2 with a FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA.
Suddenly appeared in MSA1000 '516' and the link was down.

I have changed HBA but problem continues. After contact with HP support, we have discovered that Hardware is ok, so we changed Fiber cable and problem go on.

I belive that the problem is with HBA configuration. can anybody help me to configure HBA to work ok, please?

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

Is this a direct-connect setup (no Fibre Channel switch/hub) ?

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

I have the same issue too..

I have two servers, DL580 and ML530 with FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBAs, FC connected to MSA1000's MSA Fabric Switch 6 (FW 101G12)

HBAs are recognized as emulex LP952 with FW ver. 3.93A0
I got latest storport drivers v 5.2.10.901 for w2k3 installed from emulex site on DL580
and some SCSI miniport drivers for w2k on ML530

MSA1000 FWs: ROM 5.30 EMU 1.78

i got the following issues:
link down between MSA and connected servers sometimes during reboot, sometimes just in the middle of work hours (with loosing date and all LUNs connectivity) some time when i'm just trying to access mngmt web interface of FC switch.

I've tried to reflash with lates FWs, to change FC cables to poweroff\poweron all devices... nevertheless the LUNS itself are working just great and are accessible by serial cable's CLI access all the time during such FC linkdown.

The following is displayed in eventlogs:

A fibre channel HBA port has changed to a state of link down.

User Action
Check the FC cabling to this port. Reinsert the FC GBIC if it has been unplugged. Replace FC cabling or the FC GBIC if failure continues.

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

In advance, i want to thanks your attention and i want to offer my excuses for all because i don├В┬┤t reply you before, but i have had a crisis very important :).

We solved the issue changing the transciever of MSA. I supose that your issue is in the same way. Please, try to change it.

I am waiting for your answer.

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

What do you mean transceiver?
servers are connected with FC cable right from HBA's intercface directly to MSA's Fabric Switch 6 interface. There no transceivers!

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

The transceiver does the electrical to optical signal conversion. Some components do not have replaceable transceiver modules, but that component _is_ present.

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

Hi Vladimir:

In the switch FC in one of our MSA 1000 (MSA SAN switch 2/8)we have 4 transciever (One for each port FC in use). I don├В┬┤t know if you have de same kind of switch, but i guess you have the same.
In my previous post i wrote this solution because i changed one of the transciever from this switch to the FC HBA of MSA and it worked fine again.

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

I know what transceiver means but what about other solutions?
previous opponent said that he changed transceiver by himself, so it means it's replaceable part.

maybe it's some sort of misconfiguration? i just dont have any idea...

Re: Link down FCA 2101 2GB Fibre Channel HBA

Luis Miguel,

you have MSA SAN switch 2/8, but there no replaceable transceivers in my MSA Fabric Switch 6. But there are some free FC ports though, but i've already tried to change the port to which server is connected. :(
