MSA 1000 & Storage Mirroring

Please advise if following configuration is possible & supported by HP.

Two servers are connected to MSA 1000, one is acting as Exchange server and other as File server.

A new server will be installed and volumes assigned to above two servers will also assign to this server. This server will not do any write operation, just access the volumes assigned to Exchange & File Server.

Can I assign a same volume from MSA 1000 to two servers?

If yes then HP storage Mirroring software will be installed on this server as source system and other system at remote location as destination system. Would this work? Is this supported configuration?

You can refer attached file for logical schematic.

Yes it is possible and supported by HP, where you can assign the Exchange & File server volumes to the source server using the SSP feature built in ACU management tool. Then installing HP OV Storage Mirroring software on Source and destination Servers with the appropriate license.

Re: MSA 1000 & Storage Mirroring

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

How the replication will work in this case?

Since driver is not installed on application server, would it be mirroring or replication?

Is there any dis-advantages of this design.

Re: MSA 1000 & Storage Mirroring

Nidal are you sure? I didn't think you could present the same volume to two independent Windows servers, regardless of Storage Mirroring. You could install Storage Mirroring client onto the Exchange and File servers, install Storage Mirroring Server on the "source" and "Target" systems as labelled in your diagram. But the "source" server would actually be a source and a target for storage mirroring, and would need its own disk space. It would be the target for the local mirroring from the Exchange and file servers, and the same data used as the source for mirroring to the off-site server. An example of such a "chained" configuration is shown in the User's Guide for Storage Mirroring.
