I work in a repair Depot and my company fielded 200 of the MSA 1040 data storage arrays last year, I am not familiar with the unit at all and need to develope a comprehenive testing procedure for units being returned from the field with supposed faults. Any Ideas ? Also I need to return the Unit back to stock with erased drives (not secure erase) just wiped, I was thinking by just rebuilding the array this would accomplish that?

SolutionYou can check command show system and that will help to show all information about the system, any unhealthy component present in the system.
You can manually delete the Volumes and Vdisks or VDG. That will do the purpose for you. All drive should be back in AVAIL state which means all drives will back to initial state.
If you want to remove all configuration then run the below command,
# restore defaults
Hope this helps!

Re: MSA 1040
Thanks again! one more question, I looked through the documents and I was given a DB9 to RJ45 cable for putty interface but the MSA 's I have also have the CLI mini usb port, am I wrong to assume I can log into the command line interface with either? My laptop only has USB ports so I would have to get a USB to serial port conversion adaptor?

Re: MSA 1040
Well, the DB9 to RJ45 serial cable was for other older MSA models.
The older MSA2000 were using very unique, proprietary cables for serial access.
All the newer MSA2000 have USB/mini USB connectors and a built-in serial-USB converter, so you only need the USB cable and the driver.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSA 1040
Take care, ths USB cable is standard.
You can get 1 cable from HPE or 100 cables from another shop for the same price !
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
