MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

I'm looking to upgrade the firmware on my MSA 1500cs with the SATA MSA 20 shelf. Current version on the MSA 1500cs is 4.98b401.

The problem I have is that the SAN utility does not seem to support the HBA I'm using (Emulex LP-101-E). What other upgrade options are available? Could I do this through the CLI?

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm at a supported version to do the CLI upgrade.

However, I went through all the files and ISO's and can't seem to locate the appropriate BIN files. Where are they located?

Does this generic link help?
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?taskID=135&pnameOID=415600&prodTypeId=12169&locale=en_US〈=English+%28US%29&prodSeriesId=415598

You might have to do some fishing in .ISOs or .ZIP

Sorry, I'm wrong. There is no separate .bin in latest MSA firmware utility :-0

Yeah, I've searched the ISO's and the firmware upgrade utility zip for BIN files and can't locate the appropriate files.

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

I have a dim memory that I was once looking on an older .ISO for the MSA1000. I beleive the firmware file is embedded in another file (.tar, .tgz ?) in the ISO image.

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

Here's what I've found, on the Support CD ISO in the agents folder for the Windows platform there is a CPxxxxx.exe file. In the file are a few BIN files but I don't know if these are the ones:

cqmghost.bin
cqmgnics.bin
cqmgserv.bin
cqmgstor.bin
cqtc1k.bin

HP is making this really difficult. :)

PDF in this .zip have procedure to flash via CLI and says that you must flash MSA20 first.

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

And you can flash entire MSA1500/MSA20 online with Windows MSA flash utility.
Did you try it?
What SAN utility to upgrage did you mean?

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

Well, I tried the ACU and the Windows-based flash utility. None of the applications would see the HBA I was using and thus I assumed that it is not supported with the tools provided.

I've now successfully performed the CLI upgrade. The MSA20 was already at the appropriate revision so I didn't need to do anything with that. Plus, it looks like the firmware file was for both the 1500 and the 20.

Re: MSA 1500cs Firmware Upgrade Options without the SAN utility

I think MSA20 fw 1.42 is in KINGCBRA.BIN file.
If you look into it you can see FW=1.42

The MSA20 was already on that version so I didn't have to do anything with it.
