I'm currently reconfiguring our 2052, we've run the LiveOptics analytics and we dont push a lot of data around (small community college).
I want to get the best performance out of what I have currently, but I'm undecided which path I should go.
Would I get more benefits out of balancing Pool A/B with 1 SSD for read cache vs setting up an auto-tiering performance pool on one controller?
2 800gb SSD's
20 1.8TB 10k SAS Drives

SolutionIt purely depends upon your business requirement.
If you look for read performance only then you can go for 1 SSD read-cache in each Pool but if you look for read/write performance then you should go for Performance tier configuration.
There is no harm using single Pool with Performance tier. If any issue with that Controller MSA will failover to other Controller.
You can also go through the Best Practices Whitepaper to get more information,
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=a00015961enw (Page 37 onwards to know about SSDs)
Hope this helps!

Re: MSA 2052 Auto-Tiering vs ReadCache on both controllers
I went with the performance tier configuration with SSD's in raid 1, 5x5 raid 10 in tier one and then 8+1 raid 5, and one spare, in the second tier.
Things are going well so far, knock on wood.
