MSA20 scsi controller (u320e) issue
Hello all,
We're replacing our old disk-to-disk-to-tape backup server with a somewhat newer server.
Actual configuration is a DL380G3 with a 6400 Smart Array Card. Attached to it are a MSL2024 and a MSA20.
The DL380G3 being old and giving some trouble we would like to replace it by a DL380G6 that went out of the production cycle.
After consulting HP Pre sales service we bought a new u320 SCSI card (AH627) to connect the MSL2024 and MSA20.
But ... The scsi card does not see the MSA20 at all(but does see the MSL2024) in the card menu interface (ctrl+z at boot sequence)
From the differents posts I read in here, i'm wondering if
- the MSA only work with the 6400 smart array scsi card
- If my new card is awrong model for our case (not a smart array model
any advise is welcome
Regards

Re: MSA20 scsi controller (u320e) issue
Yes, the MSA20 works only with a smart array controller that has external SCSI ports.
A plain SCSI controller doesn't work.
I wonder the MSL worked with the SA6400 - AFAIR this isn't supported. The library needs a plain SCSI controller ... only some newer smart arrays support library, but mostly with SAS conntection.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSA20 scsi controller (u320e) issue
thanks a lot for your feedback
As I was suspecting this 'smart array model' issue, I've checked what I had in stock and I found a P800 smart array controller in another 'soon to be recycled' server.
would that controller do the trick or am I facing a SAS vs SCSI device issue ?
I'll also keep in mind the MSL2024 point you mention should I face any issue with it.
Regards

Re: MSA20 scsi controller (u320e) issue
The P800 is SAS, but you need SCSI.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSA20 scsi controller (u320e) issue
Unfortunately can't do without the MSA20 as I have been told to scavenge it.
Kindly suggest which PCIe smart array controller should I buy to meet this requirement.
Thanks
