MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
MSA2324fc - Storage Controller Version M110R21
MSA70 (Dual IO) - EMP Rev 2.18
I have an MSA2324fc that is logging Disk Channel Errors for most disks across the two shelves.
Can anyone shed some light on what the error means and what i should be looking at to resolve them?
A4750 59 Disk channel error. (channel: 0, ID: 63, SN: SGA, enclosure: 2, slot: 32): Protocol Error CDB:1c0102015c00
There is a section of the event log attached.
Thanks in advance for any help given!

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
Did you ever get this resolved? We have been fighting this issue for months.

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
The issue is an known issue and the errors don't affect the data integrity, future firmware will fix the issue. We discovered the same issues today on our MSA2324fc. We consulted the HP Storage Engineer who setup the SAN and he gave us this answer:
HP StorageWorks 2000 G2 Modular Smart Array (MSA) - Products Generating "Disk channel error" Events when MSA70 Enclosures Used as Expansion JBODs
Information
HP StorageWorks 2000 G2 Modular Smart Array (MSA) products with firmware code M110R21 and M110R20 connected with MSA70 Drive enclosures generate the following event:
Disk channel error.
Details
We observed the following events on MSA2000 G2 store.log , which are connected with MSA70 drive enclosures:
A359 2009-08-27 08:02:07 59 I A Disk channel error. (channel: 0, ID: 63, SN: SGA, enclosure: 2, slot: 32): Protocol Error CDB:1c0102015c00
A360 2009-08-27 10:41:59 59 I A Disk channel error. (channel: 0, ID: 34, SN: 3SE0M4H500009948PZR9, enclosure: 2, slot: 3): Protocol Error CDB:Rd 1ef98f00 0080
A361 2009-08-27 10:41:59 59 I A Disk channel error. (channel: 0, ID: 36, SN: 3SE0M2A100009948P8B5, enclosure: 2, slot: 5): Protocol Error CDB:Rd 1ef98f00 0080
A362 2009-08-27 10:41:59 59 I A Disk channel error. (channel: 0, ID: 38, SN: 3SE0M2ZC00009949U37X, enclosure: 2, slot: 7): Protocol Error CDB:Rd 1ef98f00 0080
Issue
Disk channel errors reported by drives on an MSA70.
Workaround
When an MSA2000 G2 array is using MSA70s as expansion JBODs, disk channel errors might be reported. These errors do not affect data integrity and are being investigated for correction in a future update of firmware.

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
Was a firmware revision ever released for this issues? I have an old MSA2324fc that is starting to shoot these errors off. If anyone has a link to the firmware download it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
The error is now known since 2009 (at least) Now we are in July 2013 - and we still receive the information that we have to wait for a new firmware release. It appears that no one is working on a solution for that. Really disappointing!!

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
Disk channel error won't be because of MSA firmware always, in some cases we need to check the backend cabling, drive firmware's etc..

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
But with this background (there might be others reasons besides the firmware bug) a fix of the bug is even more required to be able to determine between real errors and "virtual" error messages issued by the firmware. If the later ones could be excluded we would know what to look for.... (btw. the firmware of all the drives had already been updated)

Re: MSA2324fc Disk Channel Error
qtr 3 in 2015 and still getting these Information warnings. Firmware pretty much up to date!
And still being told by support that these can safely be ignored.
hmmmmm
