MSA2324fc removing some disks

Hello,

We have an MSA2324fc which contains a vdisk with old smaller hard drives. Now we want to remove the drives from the system. So i've deleted the old vdisk. The drives are now in AVAIL state.

Can we now just physically remove the four disks from the system without interrupting the other vdisks that are in production?

The reason i'm asking: In the past i've updated the firmware of a hard disk from within the MSA webinterface. This caused some sort of disk rescan which temporary interupted the other working vdisks.

Re: MSA2324fc removing some disks

Hello,

hmm, I believe that internally the disks are on SAS-channels (are these loops or switched?).
So if you take one out it will probably do a rescan. Wouldn't this be visible in the logs by the way?

I would probably take out the disks one at a time, make sure array is stable and then go on to the next disk.

Thanks for the comment.

I've done it disk by disk. Checking log after each disk removal and it all worked out fine without interrupting the vdisks.
