MSA500 and Windows 2000 Server

I'm new to using the MSA devices and was looking for some direction. We currently have a MSA500 with 2 x DL360's connected via SCSI running Windows 2000 Server. Everytime we reboot either of the servers they complain about errors and start a complete scan of the volumes. This most often messes up the rights on the volumes.

What are we doing wrong?

Re: MSA500 and Windows 2000 Server

Brian,
it sounds like those servers are not clustered. In that case, proper SSP (selective storage presentation) must be enabled on the MSA500, so that one server does not have access to the other's disks.

Thanks, Yes, We are NOT clustered. I'm new to the MSA devices and from what I can find it looks like I need to install SIM (Systems Insite Manager)?

I'm not sure if the MSA500 G1 supports SSP (have ever worked with it), but if it's there, then you can find it in ACU (the array configuration utility) in the upper right cornerof the GUI.

Re: MSA500 and Windows 2000 Server

I do not see anthing like that in the ACU. We are connected via SCSI. Do you know if this is maybe only a feture if connected via Fiber?

If so I can upgrade to fiber on the servers.

Thank you very much

Re: MSA500 and Windows 2000 Server

If I recall correctly, you are working with 'stacked' SmartArray controllers. There is a backplane controller in your servers which then connects to the SmartArray controller in the MSA. You need to select this controller.

I've just checked a user manual (240333-004) I happend to have on my disk. You need firmware version 1.66 or later on the MSA500 to enable SSP. You also need a certain release state in your backplane controller and at least V6.0 of the ACU.
