Move MSA30 to new Server

I've got an MSA30 attached to a Proliant DL380 G3 using a 6402/128 Controller. I'm planning to replace the server with a DL380 G5.

I've been told that if I get a riser card I can put the 6402 into the new server's PCI-e slot and simply connect the MSA30, without needing to rebuild the array.

Is this correct?

Re: Move MSA30 to new Server

You can move disks around without really doing "anything". Make sure you have a 100% tested backup and you can simply move the SA card to the new server. The disks/volumes should come straight up.

I've done this before with moving drives inside a ML370 between servers and it worked fine.

HOWEVER MAKE SURE MAKE SURE MAKE SURE you have a GOOD & TESTED backup

Re: Move MSA30 to new Server

Tim,
You can not use a PCI-e slot for that array controller. You need a PCIx slot. Also, it may only have a full height mount bracket, in which case you will need to put install it in a PCIx card 'cage'. The 380g5 comes with either a pcix or pci-e cage.

Tim,

You should be able to replace the RAID card with a new one if you need to/have the funds to.
