Re: New GL225R003 Controller Firmware for the MSA 2040/2042/1040
Hi Kipp Glover
As I understand, the MSA 1040 Controller firmware can only be updated from OS, e.g. Windows. Can you please give me a reason for the necessity to update MSA 1040 Controller firmware GL225R003 from OS, e.g. Windows. I mean; why can't we just update the MSA 1040 Controller firmware GL225R003 from the Controller GUI?, there is a menu for that; Tools -> Update Firmware -> Select a controller-module firmware file to install:
I don't quite understand. I cannot find the MSA 1040 Controller firmware for update through the Controller GUI.
Please clarify.
Best regards
Carsten

Run the *.exe file, select "extract". You will find a *.bin file, this is the firmware itself.
Follow the relase notes in order to install the firmware:

Re: New GL225R003 Controller Firmware for the MSA 2040/2042/1040
Hello Carsten,
HPE recommends using the Smart Component for firmware upgrades from either a Windows or Linux server/PC since the Smart Component will perform various actions such as a health check. The health check ensures that your array does not have any issues that need to be resolved prior to a firmware upgrade.
The Smart Component also has some built in "smarts" to ensure all the various components (Storage controller, Management controller, etc.) are upgraded successfully. If one of the components does not upgrade successfully the Smart Component will reflash that component to ensure the firmware upgrade completes successfully on the array.
The Smart Component also will upgrade any MSA attached enclosures. The only exception would be if you have a D2700 enclosure attached, which would need ot be upgrades seperately.
While you can upgrade in either SMU or FTP, HPE recommends to use the Smart Component. We do list the various upgrade instuctions in the installation instructions on hpe.com.
Cheers,
Shawn
