Not access to the management console

Hello,

I have an MSA 2040 that I can not access to the management console.

Does it just reboot the storage to return with access?

Is there any option without the need to restart storage?

As I can not restart using the management, to reboot I have to take out the power cables, right?

Thank you.

Re: Not access to the management console

Try to access controllers directly connecting them through Serial cable (Part number:592266-001)

Please find the guide to connect to Controller CLI port,

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03820027

Then restart both management controller,

# restart mc both

This will not restart or reboot storage controllers so no impact in production

Hope this helps!

Re: Not access to the management console

Hello,

I can ping the management IP.

I read that I can try restarting using (telnet). Is this work?

restart mc a and restart mc b

Thank you.

Re: Not access to the management console

if you are able to ping management IPs then issue could be something else but common to both controllers.

You can try clear temp files of the management system as well as browser.

You can try different browser

You can try accessing SMU from different system

You can disconnect LAN cable of one of the controller management port and take one seperate LAN cable and connect to your Laptop or desktop directly.......then configure your Laptop IP in Controller IP range......then try to access SMU

If issue only with SMU access but you are able to access CLI with management IP then you can try restarting of management controllers as well

# restart mc a

# restart mc b

or

# restart mc both

Hope this helps!

Re: Not access to the management console

Hello,

I bought a mini USB cable and connected to the storage and server with Windows 2008 R2 x64.

I downloaded the driver (cp020153.exe), I installed it but it looks like it is appearing as unknown in the USB device manager.

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_f7441b0018c143ac88d83572e8

I noticed that in COM Port in the Device Manager, a COM5 (USB-SERIAL) appears.

I tried to use Hyperterminal in Windows XP, it opens but nothing appears after pressing Enter.

I think the connection is not working properly from the mini USB.

NOTE: I have not yet restarted the server where I connected the cable and installed the driver.

Thank you.

Re: Not access to the management console

Try downloading one small software called putty.exe

Then connect the Serial cable to one MSA controller CLI port as shown in the picture of the below document and other side in the Laptop or desktop or the Server.

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03820027

Place the putty.exe file in that Laptop or desktop or server

Check from device manager if you are able to see the COM port. If it's COM5 then open putty file and select option Serial. Then give COM5 under Serial line and Speed as 115200. Then click on open and then press enter. It should ask for MSA userID/Password. Attached is the screenshot of the putty software how it looks like.

Hope this helps!

Re: Not access to the management console

Hello,

I did a test, but it does not seem to work either.

Can I try with a notebook with Windows 10 Enterprise?

Thank you.

Re: Not access to the management console

Next option to try only hard reboot of Storage controllers

Stop Host IO and disconnect Host from MSA if in production. Then go for hard reboot of Storage Controllers. Remove power. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes so that all drives will spun down. Then reconnect power and then check if you can access Controllers or not.

Hope this helps!
