Operating System perform a CHKDSK on a Vdisk of the EVA

I´ve a Win 2003 STD R2 server with conexion to a EVA 4100, the HBA is a EMulex A8002A model,

The problem is that everytime we reboot de server the OS perform a CHKDSK on a several virtual disk presented to this server, and this is a serios problem to me.

I let the OS complete de CHKDSK, witch took 48 hrs, and does not correct the problem.

What i can do to avoid this problem no longer happen?

Is Windows booting from the EVA? Or is this simply data storage for Windows?

Re: Operating System perform a CHKDSK on a Vdisk of the EVA

The Windows is booting from a local hard disk, the virtual disks are only for storage data.

This server have presented 20 virtual disks, and the SO perform a CHKDSK on 14 VDisks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Operating System perform a CHKDSK on a Vdisk of the EVA

Hi,

can you check the system.evt log file to verify if the shutdown/reboot occured properly ? I seem to remember a shutdown/reboot issue with the storport driver that caused this kind of issue (dirty shutdown bit not cleared).

If you don't see the three event id's with informational level:

- 6006 : Eventlog service stopped
- 6009 :
- 6005 : Eventlog service started

but i.e. event id 6008, then something goes wrong at shutdown time.
Pls provide the version of the storport.sys driver also.

Check the presentation of the virtual disks - they MUST NOT be presented to a second Windows server, e.g. for backup.
