P2000 Disk Transfer Rate Discrepancies

Greetings,

We have a Storage Works P2000 with 22 of the 24 slots being used.

While in the Storage Management Utility and Enclosure Overview, I noticed something a bit odd.  When looking at each of the disks individually, I noticed that most of them show that it has a Transfer Rate of 6.0.  However, 4 disks display that the rate is only 3.0.  The adjoining disks are the same model and pretty much everything else is identical, besides the SN of course.

Anyone have any suggestions as to why a small portion of disks will display half the transfer rate?

Thanks!

Brendan

The array monitors drive link integrity for each drive and will adjust the link speed.  When a powercycle or a manual rescan is performed, the array will automatically establishes all drives at 6Gb.  This behaviour is fully in line with the SAS 2.0 specification governing 6Gb SAS connectivity.

Thanks John for the reply.

So if there is one drive in a RAID set that shows 3.0 while the rest are 6.0, does that mean that the whole array is running at 3.0?  How does one do a rescan of the drives without causing any sort of down time?

Thanks!
