Poor performance msa1000

Hi,
I have slow write performance with a msa1000.
Set up: Linux server (2 opteron 280, 8gb ram), Redhat Enterprise 4 x64, the dual hba (from hp, recommended for linux, forgot the part number) connected directly to the msa1000.
The msa1000 has 14 disk of 300gb 15k. One raw device with 2 raid 5 as it's not possible to make one (2tb limit). The controller on the msa1000 has 512mb cache, linux profile selected.
Drivers frome the hba was installed from the HP's rpm .
Any idea why there is a limit of around 55 MB/S?
Regards

Well for one the MSA controller is only rated at 160mbs and its a single active channel transfering data. In our testing the MSA has never been high performance device.

The base unit has two SCSI busses (bay 1..7 and bay 8..14).
