Hi ,
i have a simple question
Is the P2000 still ok ? i use it for Database storage, Virtual Maschine Storage for test Environments and File Storage.
Looking for something different to save some electricity since the Power supplies takes round about 570 watt.
Thanks & Best Regards,
Christian

Re: Question about HP P2000
Hello @ChrisKolti
I hope you are doing well!
MSA P2000 is a great entry-level storage array, however, it's a pretty old product, and depending on your Infrastructure requirement you may consider upgrading to newer MSA products to avail better features and performance.
MSA generations
MSA P2000
MSA P2000 G2
MSA P2000 G3
MSA 1040/2040
MSA 1050/2050/2052

Re: Question about HP P2000
Hi @Josh94K ,
thank you very much for your detailed Information. So i guess my next step will be if i can find some MSA 2040 if this is not too expensive. The story behind is i buy all this for private to understand how it works and provide helps to other people that may have problems to use it. I did this also for this post "DL360p G8 fan running 40% speed "
My Last question is do you also know if i need to buy a license to use this ? if so do you might know what the prices are ?
Much appreciate your responce.
Regards,
Christian

Re: Question about HP P2000
thank you for your Information, currently the MSA 2060 is not payable for me (round about 6.000 $) since i use it for private but maybe in the future. I would also buy second hand but need to think about it. Need to look around on the Internet, but thanks again for your post.
Currently i am running the MSA p2000 G3 with iSCSI FC Controllers.
Best Regards,
Christian

Re: Question about HP P2000
With respect to the licenses that you mentioned earlier, you would only need one when you want to unlock advanced MSA features to improvise functionality and performance.
you can click the link below for more information

Re: Question about HP P2000
Hi @ChrisKolti
for MSA 2040, you do not require any license to configure raid 5
@ChrisKolti I hope this helps!

Re: Question about HP P2000
A used MSA2040 might be OK for your use case.
If you have a single server only, you may consider a simple disk shelf too to increase capacity of the server.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
