SAN newbie

Hi,
I have a StorageWorks SAN Switch 2/8-EL and a RA4100 SAN running on a windows 2000 domain. I have a drive "E" setup on part of my SAN on machine A1.

I want to know if this machine goes down can I just unplug the fibre channel cable from the back of the down A1 server and plug it into another server to keep the access to the data?

How would this work? Or will it work?

Thanks!

Re: SAN newbie

It depends on your setup. For example, if you have Selective Storage Presentation (SSP, also called 'LUN masking') enabled on the RA4100 - you can check that with ACU

or if somebody has set up a specific type of zoning on the switch - can be checked with "cfgShow".

(No offense intended, but I think it is better if one chooses a subject that is meaningful to the thread's topic. Some people don't respond to newbie questions and it makes it hard to search for old threads. OK?)

Re: SAN newbie

No offense taken! I have been on both sides of the newbie experience in other forms.

I may have misunderstood what this form is for. I want to thank you for your help. It is appreciated.
