Setting up an msa1000 unit

hi,

I've inherited a msa1000 unit along with a dl380 G4. The msa1000 has the 2/8 fibe switch included. The dl380 has a qlogic hba.

Need to get the msa setup on the dl380, however there are no cables included. Having never used an msa box before, I did some searching and it seems that a rh45z cable is needed. Where might I find one of those ?

the dl380 is running rhel5/x86_64, what sort of software would I be able to get to 'manage' the san from there ?

Also, what sort of cables are needed to connect the msa unix to the dl380 ? Unfortunately, there were no cables included. Compounding the problem is that these two machines are in a DC, 120 miles away.

Any form of help is appreciated.

Hallo,
see Quickspeck for MSA1000:
...
Fibre Channel Cables for 2 or 4Gb Infrastructure
Use 2 Gb Fibre Channel cables when connecting the MSA Fibre Channel I/O Module, MSA Hub 2/3 or the MSA SAN Switch 2/8 to an HBA

2 m LC-LC Multi-Mode Fibre Channel Cable

5 m LC-LC Multi-Mode Fibre Channel Cable

15 m LC-LC Multi-Mode Fibre Channel Cable

30 m LC-LC Multi-Mode Fibre Channel Cable

Re: Setting up an msa1000 unit

You can't remotely manage the MSA from 120miles away! The cost of the equipment to make that connection would exceed your paycheck several times. You need to know the Firmware running on the MSA100 befor connecting hosts. THe firmware version readme has the compatibility matrix for what OS HBA etc will work on the MSA1000. RH5 would most likely only be supported - if at all -- using the latest Firmware version. If you only have 1 2/8 switch, & 1 HBA you need 1 cable.
