Split mirror backup, cleaning VGs on linux in the post_backup

Hi,

we finally have a split-mirror backup running on the MSA2000, RHEL5.2 . Took a little while and a lot of CLI commands and "expect" scripts to get there, but get there we did.

The only problem is that the backup can only be run once. After the backup I do a "vgchange -a n vgbrooks_backup" and it de-activates the volume group. No problem so far. But when I try to rename the VG the next time (after the next split) from "vgbrooks" to "vgbrooks_backup" it mentions that the VG files already exist in /dev/vgbrooks_backup and stops the rename. Do I need to do more that a de-activation? I I just throw the /dev/vgbrooks_backup directory and files away, it complains about the files generated by the "mapper". Is a "vgexport" enough to also get rid of the files in "/dev mapper"?

Hope someone can help, it is seriously the last step in a long, arduous process (you'd think no-one else was doing this).

Kind Regards,

Robert
