luns from msa are not visible

Hello all,

I'm working on an hp itanium rx2660 server. As a storage I use an msa p2000. I've created some luns through the GUI of the msa and I've set explicit read-write access to my server (the msa has discovered the server and as hosts it shows the names of the ports in which my server is connected to the fibre switch).

After that I'm executing ioscan -fnC disk but I cannot see any disks

Note that I've installed hpux 11iv3 on the server.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm missing? Thanks in advance

Re: luns from msa are not visible

Make sure you set the host mode to hp-ux!

Do this from CLI!

Example:

# set host-name id <WWN> profile hp-ux <HostName>

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: luns from msa are not visible

Thanks for the prompt response,

I did what you suggested but didn't make any difference. I still cannot see any disks with the ioscan cammand. And just to clarify I've checked for zones in the switch and I don't have any. Any clue?

Re: luns from msa are not visible

Just to add something. From dmesg I got the following error

0/4/0/0/0/0: Device at device id 0x10def has disappeared from Name Server GPN_FT
(FCP type) response, or its 'Port World-Wide Name' has changed.
device id = loop id, for private loop devices
device id = nport ID, for fabric/public-loop devices
System won't be able to see LUNs behind this port.

I don't know though how to overpass this, since as far as I understand this is the problem.

Re: luns from msa are not visible

Hello,

Have you set the right type on the host port on the MSA?
Loop is used for direct-connected servers.

Maybe your SAN-switch has default zoning as: no-access?

Re: luns from msa are not visible

Hello Johan,

My host port type on the MSA is FC. The default mode in the switch is all access. I am getting the following messages in dmesg

0/4/0/0/0/0: Fabric Name Server rejected GPN_FT query.
Reason code: unable to perform request;
Explanation: FC-4 Type not registered.
This may indicate that the HBA port is not part of a zone.
Please check zone configuration on your switch.

Re: luns from msa are not visible

You should check the MSA from CLI:

# show hosts

# show volume-maps

Hope this helps!
