official HBA support on servers running debian
Do you know if HP has qualified and is supporting a HBA (available on DL360 or
BL460) when the server is running Debian Etch ?

Not sure if there is official support.
I suggest you consider using SUSE Linux Enterprise instead as it offers out of the box storage support.
Debian is just another Linux so you should look at documentation on Linux and kernel version. These days all Linux are based on the 2.6 kernel.
Make sure to follow the SAN configuration guideliness, you can found those on the documentation site.
