upgrade P2000 G3 from SAS to FC/iSCSI

Hello. We have P2000G3 SAS with all SAS ports occupied by servers. We need to connect more servers to the disk array, will controller upgrade to FC/iSCSI help, and is this upgrade possible ? Do HP have separate FC controllers or all are FC/iSCSI combined ?

Hello kkpro,

HP do have controllers for the P2000 G3 that only have FC host ports.

Option number AP836A

As or your upgrade I'm not sure about that, so I'll hope somebody else can answer that.

Upgrde from G1/G2 to G3 with a different protocol (eg. SAS to FC) is supported. However in a single MSA you need to have both controllers of same type.

Here is the link for G2 to G3 upgrade. http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA0-8304ENW.pdf

I would suggest to log a support case with your local HP Support to confirm if you can move from SAS G3 to FC G3 without having to loose data.

Hello, thanks for help. Local HP reseller said, that new separate controllers will cost as much as new P2000 array system.
