Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

Hi

Is about a system we got from us.
A B132L with hp-ux pre installed.
But i getting the messaing in cde that the messaging sytem could not be startet.

I try to set sytem up to use its owen dns to resolving its own name. ( common way on windows2000 serv )
But is that the right ?

I have being looking at all the usual hosts files, and nslookup seams fine.
I have a external dns but because we donnt have internet ip ( domain name ) to use
could it not resolve on a locally name as: lan.local ?

I am very novice so i am in deep trouble.
So please be very specified.

Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

Hello Peter,

1. Make sure this system's name and IP are in your /etc/hosts file

2. Your /etc/nsswitch.conf should be set to files in the hosts line

hosts files

3. If you have a file /etc/resolv.conf, move that to /etc/resolv.bak

4. If you have a mail server you are forwarding mail to, ensure that is also in your /etc/hosts file and you can reach it from the sendmail server.

These steps are in the event you do not have DNS server.

Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

Hi John

You advice
do the commands:
# hostname
and
# uname -a
return the same name?

no
hostname=uxpc ( thats ok )
uname -a = HP-UX uxpc B.11.00 9000/778 two user license

Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

Peter,

That, in fact, is the same name. The uname -a command returns several pieces of information along with the node name (which is the second field).

Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

127.0.0.1 localhost loopback uxpc

Put the uxpc on the line with the localhost, if you have no other IP that names this machine.

If you do have /etc/resolv.conf, please mv it to another name.

Re: Cannt find KBRC00008083

Hej igen,

perhaps you are already familiar with this document?

http://www4.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&admit=-938907319+1098120636543+28353475&docId=200000073548533

Near the end of the document - under the heading ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, there is a list of other documents that may be useful.

The technical knowledge base:
http://www4.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/enterService.do
is a good starting point for searching for documents and program error messages.

Besides, no point for this, please. You should not give 8 or above until the problem has been solved. 8 produces a bunny and seeing a thread with a bunny may keep other members from looking into the thread, because they believe the problem has already been solved.
