From address in sendmail without /etc/passwd Gecos field

Hi,
Please advice me on how to send mails without the Gecos field in the from address. I cannot modify the entries in /etc/passwd as they are used for some auditing purposes.

I have tried uncommenting the "MatchGECOS" field in sendmail.cf and restarted sendmail. But it did not work.

I have tried userdb entries. The Gecos field in the from address was the same.

Thanks in Advance

Sendmail does not add the Gecos information to mails' From: and To: headers. The mail client that is used to write the message does that.

Which program or command is used to send the mail messages?

I am using the "mailx -s " command to send mails.

"man mailx". Consider the -r option.

Re: From address in sendmail without /etc/passwd Gecos field

I have given a flag entry "F=c" in the "sendmail.cf" for all the smtp mail agents.

Now the issue is resolved. User's will not get mails with their comments field.
