How to setup mail with Exchange server?

The exchange server is accepting realy from the HP server. For some reason, I think HP server is keep adding the servername with an "." at the end to cause not to send anything.

We just when to an exchange gateway and I
relay all my HP emails to it. The gateway
on the exchange server has to be turned on
in order for it to accept emails.

How can you test to see if any of your suggestion is working? Like FQDN, Masquerade, etc. Without trying to send email.
