Not able to send email

Hi,
I have to identical hp unix 11.11 servers. configuration is also same but from one server i am able to send email and form the ther i am not able to sed. if i issue
# echo test | sendmail -v salman@sg.utacgroup.com

I face following error message.

salman@sg.utacgroup.com... Connecting to intsmtp.utac.com.sg via relay...
salman@sg.utacgroup.com... Deferred: Connection refused by intsmtp.utac.com.sg


From the other server, i am able to send the email.
Any clue? Thanks

"Connection refused" normally means that the
server is not running on the other host. A
fancy firewall can also cause this.

Is intsmtp.utac.com.sg the right e-mail relay
host?

Try "telnet intsmtp.utac.com.sg 25" from the
good host and the bad host.

Is the server "intsmtp.utac.com.sg" configured to accept e-mail from the problematic host?

Have your Lotus Notes admins check the logs on their side and see what is happening there.

Yes, mail server is configured to accespt requests from my this server and IP address of my server is configured with the mail server.
Nothing found in the log files of mail server, related to my server.

Check the log files at the relay server and find out why it is denying connection explicitly from this node.

I amnot familiar with mail relay servers too much as they generally run on Redmond's finest OS, but, in the past, I have experienced many bizarre behavior when it comes to mail relaying.

Looking at the result of your email, it sounds like the smtp relay server (intsmtp) is not liking your message or headers of your message. It might be caused by not having a valid name your passwd file entry. Compare your passwd file entries

grep salman /etc/passwd

between these two nodes to see if they are any different. Also, make sure the same rules on the intsmptm server govern these two servers' mail relaying. Even though the Lotus admins may tell you it is the same, ask them to double-check it for an unnoticed, benign looking character, like a space or a dot.

Be defualt, sendmail does not permit mail relay.

intsmtp.utac.com

This system must be reconfigured to permit relay.

If you control it, that is a simple entry in the access file and an m4 compile.

If someone else administers it, you need to make a request they authorize relay. Normally this is granted by IP address on smtp relay servers.
