Hi Karthik,

Do you mean something like Netscape's Mail & Newsgroups?

Re: Sendmail - Web Interface

Hi,

What I am looking for is through a Web browser like IE or Netscape I should be able to read my mail by typing the URL of my send mail server. (Just like any popular Free mails on the web for instance yahoo ). I dont need to really download the mail but what I need is just read/reply/forward them while everything resides on my server.

And I am not looking for any tradional client software like Outlook express/Mail and News groups which comes with IE and Netscape respectively.

Thanks,
Karthik

Re: Sendmail - Web Interface

Hi Karthik,

We have that capability with our mail server, which is Lotus Notes/Domino. I'm not sure exactly how it was set up but we can just enter a URL and access our mail. It's all java based and slow at best. I can't even seem to access it from Netscape 7.0 - I have to revert to 4.79 to get it to work and I've never tried it with IE.

Re: Sendmail - Web Interface

There's a number of software packages you can get that will read a mailbox from from the web. I'd suggest a look at sourceforge.net or a Google search for "web based mail". We've used http://cornell.dynip.com/secondary/ppc/Journal-Part-2/atdot_webmail.html in a previous life -- though it's not as functional as what you'd find a sourceforge.net.

Re: Sendmail - Web Interface

I'm planning a test of this perl based product.

It would appear to be customizable, but I have no idea on the quality.

Re: Sendmail - Web Interface

I use sqwebmail:

http://www.inter7.com/sqwebmail.html

You will also need maildrop.

Works great - need to modify sendmail.cf to use maildirs:

Mlocal, P=/usr/local/bin/maildrop, F=lsAw5:/|@SPfhn, S=10/30, R=20/40,
T=DNS/RFC822/X-Unix,
A=maildrop -d $u
