Timeouts

Are there default timeouts in sendmail or do you need to actually uncomment the timeout lines in the sendmail.cf file? I see there are a number of commented out lines that deal with timeouts in the sendmail.cf file but do I need to uncomment them out or is there an actual default with out un-commenting the lines?

Re: Timeouts

There are a bunch of configurable timeouts in sendmail. AFAIK, all timeouts have defaults, though the "Bat Book" indicates that "some of the timeouts may seem overly long". All of the timeout defaults are specified in the "Bat Book" beginning on page 756 of the 2nd edition.

Re: Timeouts

P.S. I generally configure the timeouts (uncomment them) if I need to modify sendmail's behavior.

Re: Timeouts

So when the Sendmail book says that there is 5 min default timeout, the commented line in sendmail.cf file (which is for 5 minutes) doesn't need to be uncommented for it to have this default.

Re: Timeouts

Correct. Though the timeouts in sendmail.cf aren't always indicative of the default timeouts.
