Re: mail stopped working

Okay, I was wrong. I had installed some software before the problem started. I downloaded zlib, openssl, and openssh from the software porting center and installed those packages. Seems suspicious.

Re: mail stopped working

The NIS map message was generated along with the "from" and "to" sendmail messages. Going back in the mail.log, I've been getting that for quite some time. It's in the log well before the problem started. I'm sure I have rebooted (not including this weekend's boot) after the earliest time the NIS message appeared.

Guess it's obvious I've never worked with sendmail configs nor troubleshooting.

Re: mail stopped working

I swremoved openssh, openssl, and zlib on the development server. Then I rebooted. I'm still have the same problem with mail.

Re: mail stopped working

Two things You can check now is /etc/resolv.conf and nsswitch.conf.

Check if resolv.conf has proper search order and Domain name.

And in nsswitch.conf is anywhere refering NIS for resolutions.

-USA..

Good Luck..

Re: mail stopped working

Hello
Here is my 2 cents ..
the
#mail user
command does not have any kind of verbose out put.
what happends if you do
#sendmail -v user

Re: mail stopped working

Good call, Uday! I had screwed up /etc/nsswitch.conf. Guess sendmail didn't look at it until being restarted by the reboot. I took out references to nis, restarted sendmail, and boom! Messages that I'd tried to send over the past 2 days showed up!

Thanks!
