root mail - unreaded

Hi Anybody know how to change the status of the root mail as "reared"

I read the content using тАЬcat /var/mail/rootтАЭ

But still showing unread

root@MYSERVER:/# mailx

# mv /var/mail/root /tmp/mail.mmddaa.txt

Run elm as root. Then read each mail message or just hold the Enter key down and elm will run through all the messages marking them as read. To remove them type the letter d and to mark them as unread, type the letter u, and q to exit.
