Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

Are you speaking of one, other than the version that comes with the core-OS ?

I have two systems with 11.23 (itanium) and they have sendmail installed from a cold installation.

judging from the link above, sendmail should installed with an OE install.

Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

Sendmail comes with 11.23, as part of the standard InternetSrvcs product. The following command should confirm this: -

swlist -l file InternetSrvcs

Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

Forgot to say, to enable it, ensure SENDMAIL_SERVER=1 is configured in /etc/rc.config.d/mailservs, and run /sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Hi ann,

on my PC I have the following link between Favourites:

http://www.uwsg.indiana.edu/usail/index/mail.html

It is one of the best document to install, configure and manage sendmail.

Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

It depends exactly what you want really. At the most basic level, if you want to simply allow your server to email out via your mailserver (eg an exchange server), then you need to edit /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, and set: -

DS macro to point to your mailserver, eg: -

DSmailserver1.yourcompany.com

Dj macro to be your local domain name, eg:-
Djyourcompany.com or
Dj$w.yourcompany.com if you want the emails to include server name in their outgoing domain name.

If you need to do more than this, eg set the server up as a mailserver, then there's MX records to be setup etc, so if you've not done this before you should really have a reference manual/sheet to be working from. There'll be numerous examples on t'interweb no doubt.

Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

That depends on exactly what you wish to do seeing sendmail is a bit of a monster.

basic:

DSmyexchange

(is setting your exchange server name)

After making changes:
# /sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
# /sbin/init.d/sendmail start

Make sure that DNS is set correctly (see /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/nsswitch.conf)
Also set up aliases in /etc/mail aliases to email out to persons or groups.
Make sure you run 'newaliases' after completion.

Re: sendmail for HPUX 11.23

Hai,

We have to configure the sendmail setup with /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file.
Where we have to fill,
Dj tag for official domain name or Fully Qualified Domain Name.
DS for smtp domain.
DM for Masquerade domain.

We have to the FQDN entry in /etc/hosts and appropriate resolvation setup on /etc/nsswitch.conf file

We can create aliases with /etc/mail/alias file. Then execute the newaliases to do it.

Start the sendmail deamon. The running sendmail PID and it's comman line information will be in /etc/mail/sendmail.pid file

More comments will be in all /etc/mail/* files. Refer sendmail man page more.

Muthukumar.
