Re: 4 Reasons Why Certifications Matter

karlkovacs

Speaking from experience, selecting people to participate in the development of a single HP ExpertOne certification (courseware and exams) is rigorous.  HP Employees, partners and customers from around the world spend countless hours updating or creating courseware and exams.

We put a lot of emphasis on the requirement to have real-world, hands-on experience with HP products and solutions. If you look at any of our technical certification EPGs (exam preparation guides), they list minimum requirements needed to successfully pass the exam, including hands-on experience.

As an example, the EPG for HP0-S33 Advanced Integration and Management of HP Server Solutions states:

Although anyone can take the exam, most successful candidates have a minimum of one year experience with HP Rack and Tower Server solutions. It is also expected that you will have industry standard server technology knowledge from training, hands-on experience or participation in other technical events.

I completely agree here with Karl. Talking about myself, A year back all the reasons mentioned above was preventing me to appear for a certification. I used to think WTH! I am an SME I provide live on call assistance for complex issues. Why should I even consider for a certification? One of the thoughts were I should be awarded a Certificate! Anyhow, I happen to get a chance to go on a long leave and that was the time I realise its worth!

Appearing/Clearing Industry recognized certification not only helps you gain a certain level of knoweldge, certify that you know what you claim to be but also it comes with a bragging rights! There is a differnce saying I know everything and Hey, I am HP Expert or vExpert. You gain respect from the community and from your colleagues for the achievement. It also helps to build your resume.

Online Training/Instructor Led Traing or let it be self learning. If you are confident you know something! Get Certified!

I am not talking in respect to just Storage. Let it be anything. FYI: I happen to be good in Arts and I am trying to get certified on it!

Try and appear for one certification, rest will be a history! You will challenge yourself for the next one!

Good Luck to All!

Hi,

I would like to understand whether the HP Sales Certifications are worth for a Project/Service Level Manager...

Even though I have been working as a Service Level Manager in ITPS Domains , instead of taking technical training , can i opt for "HP Sales Certified - IT Performance Suite" or "HP Advanced Sales Certified - ITPS Applications Solutions" that could enrich my overall knowledge ...

Please advice...

thanks,

Sathya

Great Question Sathya,

I regularly take training. Product and solution portfolios continually change and the methods for deployment, management and lifecycle change too.

Make sure you have an HP Learner ID. You will need it to get access to the training. Oh, and a lot of the sales training is self-study, web based (no cost).

Gaining a professional certification isn't easy - but then again, it's not meant to be. A professional certification sets a person apart as someone who's exceptional, who really knows his/her job.Superior career advancement due to Information Technology Industry's widespread acceptance of certifications and credentials.

There seems to be some confusion on the  route to Certification  here. A class room training followed by a certification exam is definitely the best option.  However the effort put in by the HP training team seems to be like training to swim through email. While nobody can question the merits of even this,  the effectives of such efforts is lost in a big way when studious engineers easily pass exams, but have very limited practical knowledge.

EVery engineer cannot be judged by years of experience and here, Certification do help them to stand apart.  However practically speaking, class room training cannot replace email/net based training.

Hope HP put some effort to really back up their exam based certification efforts with class room training done at the convenience of participating engineers and partners rather than the convenience of HP staff who always want to do it in Dubai and Germany.

THis is so true. Certifiactions are worth the time and effort. What I do is part of my life and my identity. My jobs starting out were important and also thankless, compared to what I do now. If I did not have certifiactions, my life and career would not be as good as it is right now.
