7 things to see and do while attending the HPE Technology and Solutions Summit: Gothenburg, Sweden
This June, we are hosting HPETSS in Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city with a population of approximately 550,000 residents. Situated by the Kattegat, on the west coast of Sweden; Gothenburg is about halfway between the capitals Copenhagen, Denmark, and Oslo, Norway. When you fly in, you will land at the Gรถteborg Landvetter Airport, located 30 km (18.64 mi) southeast of the city center.
Being a port city; you are never far from water in Gothenburg; down at the harbor where giant ferries traffic continental Europe, or the cityโs beautifully laid-out canals.
Weather
During HPETSS, you can expect warm and pleasant weather with average high temperatures of 19 to 20 ยฐC (66 to 68 ยฐF) and lows of 10 to 12 ยฐC (50 to 54 ยฐF).
Currency
Swedenโs currency is the Swedish Krona (SEK) and is subdivided into รถre. SEK 10 is approximately equivalent to โฌ 1.
Getting to the Conference Center and HPETSS Hotels
Flygbussarna offers convenient and comfortable bus transfer from the airport to the bus stop at Korsvรคgen/ Svenska Mรคssan. Tickets via website http://www.flygbussarna.se/en/Landvetter
Taxis are readily available at Gothenburg Airport. A taxi ride from the airport to the center of Gothenburg will cost around โฌ35.
To get to the Gothica Towers conference center, please follow directions to Svenska Maessan, entrance 8!
Delegates staying at a Scandic hotel or at the Clairon Hotel Post will receive a 5-day public transportation pass. This ticket allows unlimited travel within the city of Gothenburg on public transportation. Take advantage of this during your stay to visit local attractions or go out for the evening.
Local Attractions
Liseberg
The attractions of Liseberg, Scandinavia's largest amusement park, are many and varied. Adrenalin blasts include the venerable wooden roller coaster Balder, its 'explosive' colleague Kanonen, where youโre blasted from 0km/h to 75km/h in under two seconds, AtmosFear, Europeโs tallest (116m) free-fall tower, and the park's biggest new attraction: thrilling rollercoaster Helix that lets you experience weightlessness and loops the loop seven times. Less intense options include carousels, fairy-tale castles, an outdoor dance floor, adventure playgrounds, and shows and concerts.

Mรถlndals Museum
Located in an old police station, the museum is like a vast warehouse, with a 10,000-strong booty of local nostalgia spanning a 17th-century clog to kitchen kitsch and a recreated 1930s workerโs cottage. With a focus on memories and feelings, itโs an evocative place where you can plunge into racks of vintage clothes, pull out hidden treasures and learn the individual items' secrets on the digital catalogue.

Sjรถfartsmuseet
Sjรถfartsmuseet focuses on the city's maritime history through an entertaining collection of maps, model ships, recreated sailors' quarters, and period objects. Most compelling is the large darkened hall where you're surrounded by soaring figureheads โ some regal, some pensive, some vicious. You may spot some scrimshaw and a tiny weaving loom in a bottle among the nautical booty.
The attached aquarium wriggles with goofy North Sea flatfish, lobsters and upside-down jellyfish, and you can find Nemo in the tropical fish tank.
Outside, the Sjรถmanstornet (Marinerโs Tower), topped by a statue of a grieving woman, commemorates Swedish sailors killed in WWI.

Dining out
Thรถrnstrรถms Kรถk
Specialising in modern Scandinavian cuisine, chef Hรฅkan shows you how he earned that Michelin star through creative use of local, seasonal ingredients and flawless presentation. Feast on the likes of sweetbreads with hazelnut and cured perch with rhubarb; don't miss the remarkable milk-chocolate pudding with goat's-cheese ice cream. A la carte dishes are available if a multi-course menu overwhelms you.

Moon Thai Kitchen
The owners have opted for a 'Thailand' theme and decided to run with it a few miles, hence the kaleidoscopic whirl of tuktuks, flowers and bamboo everything. Luckily, the dishes are authentic, the whimsical menu features such favourites as som tum (spicy papaya salad) and the fiery prawn red curry will make you weep with pleasure and gratitude.
Nightlife
Barn
As the name suggests, this bar is all roughly hewn wood and copper taps, and the beer/wine/cocktail selection is guaranteed to get you merry enough to, erm, raise the barn. The burgers make fantastic stomach-liners, too.

Noba Nordic Bar
With ye olde maps of Scandinavia on the walls and a glassed-over beer patio with birch tree stumps for stools, this bar takes its Nordic beers very seriously. From Iceland's Freja to Denmark's K:rlek, you name it, they've got it. The free-flowing whiskies liven up the scene on weekends.
