Next week, February 6-10, we are hosting HPETSS in the glamorous French Riviera location of Cannes. It is a commune of France located in the Alpes-Maritimes department, and host city of the annual Cannes Film Festival, Midem, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The city is known for its association with the rich and famous, its luxury hotels and restaurants, and for several conferences.

Pack for the weather

Cannes is known for its sunshine and warm temperatures. During winter months, temperatures can drop and be moderate. Make sure to check the weather and pack appropriate clothing.

Currency

Franceโ€™s currency is Euro (โ‚ฌ).

Getting to the Conference Center and HPE TSS Hotels

There will be no organized airport shuttles for arrival transfers from the Nice airport. Taxis are readily available at Nice Airport. A taxi ride from the airport to the Cannes Center will cost around 70 - 75โ‚ฌ. Buses run from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to Cannes between 08:00 and 20:00 approximately every 30 minutes and cost 20โ‚ฌ one way or 30โ‚ฌ return.

Please access the Aruba Meridian App โ€“ EMEA to get transportation information and schedule details. This will allow you to plan well in advance and arrive onsite in time. Transportation schedule will also be available in your hotel lobby.

We will provide airport transfers from the venue to Nice airport on Friday, 10 February as of 13:15. On departure day please bring your luggage to the luggage tent outside the Palais des Festivals.

Cannes Attractions

  • The Promenade de la Croisette is the waterfront avenue with palm trees. La Croisette is known for picturesque beaches, restaurants, cafรฉs and boutiques. The multi-starred hotels and couture shops lining the iconic bd de la Croisette (aka La Croisette) may be the preserve of the rich and famous, but anyone can enjoy strolling the palm-shaded promenade โ€“ a favourite pastime among Cannois at night, when it twinkles with bright lights. Views of the Baie de Cannes and nearby Estรฉrel mountains are beautiful, and seafront hotel palaces dazzle in all their stunning art-deco glory. Follow rue St-Antoine and snake your way up Le Suquet, Cannes' old town for great views of the bay
  • Le Suquet, the old town, provides a good view of La Croisette.
  • La Malmaison - Walk a few blocks along La Croisette to La Malmaison, a seaside pavilion in the former games and tea room of Cannes' grandest hotel of the 1860s, the Grand Hรดtel (opened in 1864, shut in 1950, demolished and rebuilt in the 1960s). Modern art exhibitions fill part of La Malmaison today.
  • The fortified tower and Chapel of St Anne house the Musรฉe de la Castre.
  • A distinctive building in Cannes is the Russian Orthodox church.
  • Hรดtel de Ville, Cannes' town hall.

You can also visit Antibes and Nice by train (10 and 40 minutes respectively, every 20 minutes).

Dining out

Discover why Noรซl Mantel is the hotshot of the Cannois gastronomic scene at his refined old-town restaurant. Service is stellar, and the seasonally inspired cuisine divine โ€“ Mantel's food maximizes local ingredients but isn't afraid to experiment with unusual flavors and cooking techniques. Spot the classic film stars on the walls, from Cary Grant to Alfred Hitchcock.

Bobo Bistrobobo bistro.jpg

Predictably, it's a 'bobo' (bourgeois bohemian) crowd that gathers at this achingly cool bistro in Cannes' fashionable Carrรฉ d'Or (Golden Sq). The decor is stylishly retro, with attention-grabbing objets d'art including a tableau of dozens of spindles of colored yarn. The cuisine is local, seasonal and invariably organic: artichoke salad, tuna carpaccio with passion fruit, roasted cod with mash fait masion (homemade).

Lโ€™Affable - Modern French in Cannesl'affable.jpg

Fine dining with a price to match, run by experienced chef Jean-Paul Battaglia. The setting is formal โ€“ beige chairs and banquette seats, tasteful art on the walls โ€“ and suited to Battaglia's intricate modern food, which scores as highly on presentation as for flavor. Leave room for the signature Grand Marnier soufflรฉ. Bookings essential.
