HP LH3 HDD upgrade

Hi friends,

HP LH3 has integrated NetRAID adapter which only supports ultra2 SCA HDD, means maximum capacity of a HDD is 18 GB only. can you tell me any other way to upgrade it to ultra3 based HDD? I believe we can connect any Ultra3 RAID adapter for this purpose, but need an expert advice..

hi,

Yes you can just use one of the other netraid cards that support ultra3, however the hotswap cage only supports u2 so it will still only run at u2 speeds, recable it accordingly, or put ultra 3 drives in the server and they will just run at ultra2 speed. you wont get improved performance but increased capacity.

Can you tell me any tested NetRAID adapter, which you seen used in LH3? I want to run safe side for this server, because it's an old server, and customer's whole domain runs on it, as well as it acts as database server also.also, if possible, part no. for cage backplane upgrade.

This server has an integrated raid controller which is built in the I/O board. However, if you still want to use an add on pci raid controller here is the list that are supported
Netraid 1M HP part# P3410-63001 or P3410A
Netraid 2M HP part# P3411-639001 or P3411A (this is with 64MB Cache)
or P3475-63001 or P3475A (this is with 128MB Cache)
Netraid 1Si HP part# D2140-63004 or D2140A
Netraid 3Si HP part# D5955-63001or D5955A
Netraid 4M HP part# D9161-63001 or D9161A (this is 64MB Cache)
D9351-63004 or D9351A (This is 128MB Cache)


Depending on financial capacity and other factors you can decide which ever one of this

hi, amhakassa is correct with the raid cards i believe and any should work ok. unfortunatley there is not a backplane upgrade to U3.
