How to configure RAID0 in Netserver lp 1000r

Hi,

I've this old HP Netserver LP 1000r with 3x 36GB SCSI HDD in it.

The problem is how do I perform a RAID0 on this 3 drive so that I can get a 100GB array?

Do I need to insert another controller board (NetRAID) to do this? Currently this server only has the basic sym scsi board...

Re: How to configure RAID0 in Netserver lp 1000r

The LP1000R does not have native RAID support built into the system board. If you need it, you will have to install a separate SCSI RAID controller into the one available PCI slot.

You can probably find HP NetRAID boards cheap on Greed-bay, or perhaps at the larger surplus computer stores.

On a related note: If you plan to be storing critical data on that system, I would not use RAID-0. I would, instead, choose RAID-5. That way, you'll have at least some chance of recovery if you lose a drive.

Happy tweaking.

I almost forgot to add... If you really do need 100 gigs of storage, you can use a RAID controller that has an external connector, along with an appropriately-sized external array. Compaq hardware to do this is showing up pretty inexpensively on the surplus market.
