LH3 Cooling Fans
I have an LH3 in a home office environment for development & testing - a very nice machine, but I can't power it up because of the fan noise. It sounds like a hovercraft coming up the beach. With only a couple of disks and no work it's grossly over-cooled.
Can I:
Command a fan speed change with some utility I don't yet know about?
Patch the microcode?
Drill the tracks on the motherboard and insert a rheostat?
Stuff it with fibreglass batts?
Replace the fans with ac ones(10db quieter)and rewire.
Change the pitch of the existing fan blades with a heat gun or prune them?
And then how do I stop the warning lights flashing?
There must be way. Help, please

Re: LH3 Cooling Fans
You can use toptools for your server to monitor and manage the ventilators. you can even stop some with particular servers.
Also Openview ManageX is a nice (but expensive tool) to have a look at.

Re: LH3 Cooling Fans
Thanks Dries.
How do I use Toptools to manage things. I only see reporting functions rather than control. What am I missing?

Re: LH3 Cooling Fans
Have a look at this site : http://netserver.hp.com/products/management.asp
It shows an overview of the different programs available for management and what they can do.
Good luck,
Dries
