Need HAL for e800 server

I would like to add a second processor to an e800 processor. What HAL do we use?

Re: Need HAL for e800 server

Depends on whether you're using Windows/NT or Windows/2000.

If you're using Windows/NT, you use the standard Microsoft MPS Multiprocessor HAL. You would install the HAL using the uptomp.exe utility from the Windows/NT Resource kit, just remember it is CRITICAL to fix the WIN32K.SYS file and then reinstall the current service pack after running uptomp and BEFORE rebooting, or your system will not be usable. See articles Q124541, Q142660, and search for UPTOMP at support.microsoft.com.

If you're using Windows/2000, you can also use the MPS Multiprocessor HAL, or the ACPI Multiprocessor HAL. The ACPI provides some power management features, but it's not clear whether these are benefical on a server (unless you're in California). You change HAL's in Windows/2000 via Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> Computer. See article Q234558 at support.microsoft.com.

Cheers!
