HI,
try to remove the power cable for 15 min (to reset management).
After that, you can try to update the bios (create a new bios diskette).
If the problem persiste you can try to clear cmos. You have to enter in the bios with F11. Select menu exit, so clear system config and exit setup. At the boot, wait for a post error 0012 and enter in F2 and save and exit (f10).

Unplug the system for 5 minutes, then boot to the BIOS update floppy (you can get that from here: http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hpnetserve10993&l=en&c=BIOS ) And try and update the BIOS. If you get the sdredit error, then the I/O Riser board needs to be replaced.

Re: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure

I work for a reseller.we see hundreds of these lpr's daily.. sometimes the little 15second trick works.. but usually if it persists...it is a bad motherboard. We have tried every and all solutions given by HP.. like I said sometimes the 15second trick works..
I usually gauge it by this:
If the error is recieved with a DIMM management error..and there are no DIMM lights lit to coorespond with the memory you have installed..aka NO DIMM LIGHTS. Your mobo is DEAD. warranty it if you can.

Re: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure

We have a lot of LPr with the same error, it could not be flashed because the problem with sdredit.exe.

Many of these server also displayed some error in the POST, like:

0080-51 : NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure 0090-64 :
DIMM Management Failure

A man from HP made a bootdiskett with some extra files:

flash.exe (44 kb)
lprm_us.bin (128 kb)
readme.txt

When i run the flash-program it told me that the MMC was stuck in boot-mode. After booting the server again all the error was gone, and the green led was working again.

But the MMC-firmware was changed from a newer to an older release, so I had to "upgrade" the bios on the LPR to 4.06.35 again.

I couldn't find these files anywhere at hp.com so I try to post them as an attachment.

Make a bootdiskett and add the files. Read the readme.txt.

Re: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure

0080 and 0090 errors NEVER need to have hardware replaced. I've always been able to solve them by the following steps/tricks.

1. Boot from Navigator CD, Clean hardware eventlog first.

2. Power down disconnect everything connected to COM ports, remove PCI cards esp TTRCC and power cord for 10 minutes (not less) (capacitor needs to discharge)

3. Boot from BIOS floppy. Flash then CLear CMOS.- Then press escape until you have left the BIOS, SAVING the changes.

Watch flash closely. If any error manually flash with instruction below:

Solution B:

1. disconnect power chord for 1 minute.

2. Boot from an MS-DOS boot floppy.

3. Insert the BIOS update floppy, manually run

a)flashmmc lprra_us.bin (interactive screen)

b)sdredit -w -f list_lpr.sdr (no screen wait for DOS prompt.)

This cures all I know.

If any problem mail me.

Re: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure

BTW MMC controller is on the RISER BOARD not on the motherboard.

Re: NetServer Management Controller Selftest Failure

I had the same error messages and I followed Ben's instruction by going the manual route and it fixed my problem. Thanks.

Ben, after all these years your solution is still actual. My good old LPr comes back to life... Thanks, Roland.
