SNMP.EXE use 50% of the CPU on Windows Server 2003 SP1
On the system is the HP TopTools Agent 5.55 Patch1 installed.
I've now installed the Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003. The SNMP Service is using 50% of the CPU.
If I uninstall the TopTools Agent the SNMP service is using the normal resources.
Also If I uninstall the SP1 and reinstall the TopTools Agent the SNMP Service is working normal.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Christian

Re: SNMP.EXE use 50% of the CPU on Windows Server 2003 SP1
I would stop SNMP Service, clear all previous alarms using Instant TopTools and restart SNMP again.
Make sure that the service is configured, and at least the server can query itself using the correct community.

Re: SNMP.EXE use 50% of the CPU on Windows Server 2003 SP1
thanks for you reply.
I've installed Instant TopTools and cleaned the System Log. The Status of the Hardware is OK, but the SNMP.EXE is still using 50% of the CPU and the System (PID 4) is also using 30%. :-(

Re: SNMP.EXE use 50% of the CPU on Windows Server 2003 SP1
one update:
The problem is related with the symsnmp.dll and symtrap.dll which are responsible for the SCSI Smart Agent.
I've deleted both entries in the SNMP extensions key in the registry and the system is working normal.
The entries are in the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents
The values are:
"17"="SOFTWARE\\Hewlett-Packard\\NetSrvAsst\\symsnmp\\CurrentVersion"
"18"="SOFTWARE\\Hewlett-Packard\\NetSrvAsst\\symtrap\\CurrentVersion"
I've also found a sym_opt.ini in WINNT\hpserver where I can configure some settings for this dll's. I've tried some settings without success.
