smoking system board LH3000 D9176A

System board shows a trace of smoke damage from underneath the top CPU socket. The other side of the board looks like one of the pins to the top CPU socket is not soldered.
The fans do not turn.
Power supplies checked out good.
The top CPU was replaced with a new one.
System shows life but the smell of burning starts almost immediately after being turned on.
Obviously, the system / CPU board needs replacing.
Question: Could another component be causing the system board to overheat at the CPU socket?
If so, what else should I replace?
Thanks...

Ray,

Most obvious replacement and cause would be the system board. I would also probably replace the CPU and VRM unless you can verify their functionality in another system. Finally the power management board (system board and i/o board plug into it) handles the power of the system, so inspect that board as well for possible replacement.
